Nieder Ellguth – dziś Ligota Dolna, to położona na Śląsku Opolskim nie­­wiel­ka wioska o niezwykłej historii, którą od lat próbuję zbadać, porządkując pozostawione przez dekady drobne skrawki wielowątkowej ukła­danki, rozplątując miej­scowe legendy i oddzielając prawdę od ludowej fikcji. Okazuje się to jednak niełatwe.

Historia Nieder Ellguth jawi się jako ciąg osobliwych przemian i dziwnych mutacji: miejsc, ludzi, znaków, symboli, wreszcie – przyrody. Wioska, wraz z jej ludzkimi i nie-ludzkimi mieszkańcami przez dekady przechodziła z jednej formy w inną, dopasowując różne swoje cechy do gwałtow­nie zmie­nia­jących się okoliczności. Adaptując się do nagłych zmian, wieś two­rzyła nieraz formy mieszane, niewystępujące nigdzie indziej.

Dla dzisiejszego badacza, przeglądającego pozostałości tych długo­trwa­łych przemian, stanowią one skomplikowaną łamigłówkę. Kim byli ludzie, którzy tu kiedyś mieszkali? Kim są dziś? Skąd się wzięły i co właściwie znaczą wielbione przez mieszkańców symbole? Jak to możliwe, że pewne sprawy rozpłynęły się w powietrzu, a inne, mimo że powinny dawno runąć, trwają niewzruszenie i nikogo nie zaskakują? Wreszcie: czy motyle rzeczywiście są tym, czym się wydają?

Nieder Ellguth: das Fliegende Archiv (Latające archiwum) to również hołd dla dotychczas po­mi­ja­nej historii wielkiej populacji motyli zamieszkujących niegdyś tamte rejo­ny. Okazują się one kluczem do zrozumienia wielu zagadek wioski.  Choć pewnie trudno w to wszystko uwierzyć.

Nieder Ellguth - today called Ligota Dolna, is a tiny village in Silesia with an extraordinary history that I have been exploring for years, trying to put in order the tiny pieces of a multi-threaded puzzle left over the decades, dismantling the legends that have grown around the village and separating the truth from folk fiction. After years of work, I am happy to present my findings for the first time - in a form of a fully restored and updated archive.

The history of Nieder Ellguth appears as a series of peculiar transformations and strange mutations of places, people, symbols, and finally - nature. The village, along with its human and non-human inhabitants, has been shifting from one form to another over the decades, adjusting its various features to rapidly changing conditions. Adapting to sudden changes, the village often created mixed forms that did not occur anywhere else. 

For today's researcher studying the remnants of these long-term transformations, they present a complex puzzle. Who were the people who once lived here? Who are they today? Where did the symbols adored by the inhabitants come from and what do they actually mean? How is it possible that some things have vanished into thin air, while others, despite the fact that they should have collapsed a long time ago, remain unmoved and surprise no one? Are butterflies really what they seem?

Nieder Ellguth: The Flying Archive is a presentation combining the pre- and post-war aeronautical history of the village, as well as the first ever homage to the previously marginalized history of butterflies and moths that once inhabited these regions and which seem to be the key to understanding many of the village's mysteries.
